Who makes it, and what to know
Fisher & Paykel is a New Zealand appliance brand that has been part of China's Haier Group since 2012. It does not say where these ranges are made; Abt's listing says Thailand. Fisher & Paykel's warranty: two years, parts and labor, with no registration needed, and it passes to a later owner of the home. All gas, so it runs from a gas line and an ordinary 120-volt outlet. The Series 7 is simpler than the Series 9: three oven functions instead of nine, no self-clean, and a storage drawer rather than a warming drawer, for about $1,200 less at Abt. Fisher & Paykel says the oven fits a 32 lb turkey. You buy from Abt Electronics, a family-owned appliance and electronics store in Glenview, Illinois, open since 1936. Abt handles delivery and returns: most items go back within 30 days in their original packaging, and Abt may charge the return shipping. The warranty is Fisher & Paykel's.

“A solid oven/stove but it has baffling UI choices. There is no preheat function. Why? And the temperature knob--who designed this? Truly, who? Some intervals are 50 degrees, some are 80 degrees but they take up the same space--and the set points are arbitrary. 380 degrees? Who has ever needed THAT temperature??”

“Cleaning the base of the gas burners themselves - if there are splatter stains from cooking or if water has boiled over - is really difficult. The instructions say to use a toothbrush with soapy water (dishwasher liquid) but that doesn't work that well. Ditto for the grates, burner caps and rings. I've soaked them in soapy water and gently rubbed them with a microfiber cloth or soft scourer but that doesn't work. Also, if water has boiled over and has stained the base of the burner stand, you can't directly remove that base and it's very awkward to clean in the holes. I try and address spills directly but you have to wait obviously for the burner to cool and by then the spill seems engrained.”
