5 Series 36 in. gas range, open burners

Recall check. This model line was recalled in February 2022 for a gas leak and fire risk: tubing to the bake and broil burners could separate. The recall covers ranges made from August 10 to December 1, 2021; the fix is a free repair. A range bought new today is outside those dates. An older 2015 recall, for ovens turning on by themselves, covered Viking gas ranges sold from 2007 to 2014 whose model numbers begin VGIC536. Viking is an American range maker based in Greenwood, Mississippi. Viking says the majority of its products are made there; its product pages do not say where each model is built. Since February 2026 it has been owned by Composition Brands, which also owns AGA. Viking's warranty: two years full on the whole range, 90 days on cosmetic parts such as glass and paint, and from year three to year five the burners (and on dual fuel the electric elements) as parts only, with you paying the labor. Open burners are the commercial style: each has a porcelain and cast iron cap, and the burner is not sealed into the cooktop. The oven is not self-cleaning. All gas, so it runs from a gas line and a 120-volt outlet. You buy from Abt Electronics, a family-owned appliance and electronics store in Glenview, Illinois, open since 1936. Abt handles delivery and returns: most items go back within 30 days in their original packaging, and Abt may charge the return shipping. The warranty is Viking's.
