Range hoods
Range hoods in color, and how to match a hood to your range
Every number that matters for a range hood comes from the range below it. So this guide starts with the width, the height and the fan strength, and then shows which hoods come in the same color as your range.

Most people choose the range first and only then look up at the wall above it. And that's the right order, because a hood is sized to the range, not the other way around. So start with the range you've chosen, and the hood is mostly decided for you.
The ZLINE wall hood, painted in the same color names as the range doors.
The ZLINE Autograph hood.
The KitchenAid wall hood, which comes in 30 inches only.
The Viking 5 Series wall hood, with its fan kit bought separately.
Kucht's own stainless hood, because Kucht makes no hood in color.
Three numbers that come from the range
The width of the hood
ZLINE says a hood should be the same width as the range or up to 6 inches wider, and Viking says to match the range. So a 30 inch hood over a 30 inch range is fine at the normal height.
The height above the cooktop
ZLINE and Viking both say 30 to 36 inches above the cooktop. Café says 24 inches at least and 36 inches at most. Too low and the hood is a fire risk, but too high and it captures nothing, so mount it within the heights its maker gives.
The strength of the hood's fan
A hood's fan is rated in cubic feet of air a minute, written as CFM. And the rule of thumb that Viking and ZLINE publish is one CFM for every 100 BTU of burners under the hood, BTU being the heat a gas burner puts out. So a Kucht KDF302, whose four burners add up to 48,000 BTU, wants a hood of about 480 CFM. And KitchenAid's 30 inch Juniper gas range adds up to 64,000 BTU, so by the same rule it wants about 640 CFM, which is worth knowing before you choose KitchenAid's own 400 CFM Juniper hood for it.
| Range | Burners, in BTU | Hood fan, in CFM |
|---|---|---|
| Kucht KDF302, 30 inch | 48,000 | about 480 |
| Viking 5 Series gas, 30 inch | 63,500 | about 635 |
| KitchenAid Juniper gas slide-in, 30 inch | 64,000 | about 640 |
| KitchenAid commercial-style dual fuel, 36 inch | 90,000 | about 900 |
| Viking 5 Series open burners, 36 inch | 90,000 | about 900 |
| Viking 5 Series open burners, 48 inch | 120,000 | about 1,200 |
Two more checks before you choose the hood
A stronger hood fan brings two more checks with it.
- Fresh air: the International Residential Code, section M1503.6, requires a way for fresh air to come in (called make-up air) for any hood rated over 400 CFM. Whether your city enforces it is a question for your building department, and whether your house needs it is a question for whoever installs the hood, before you buy.
- The duct: KitchenAid's and Bertazzoni's hoods below use a 6 inch round duct, and Café's commercial hood uses 8 inches. Shrinking the duct to fit an old hole is the most common installation mistake, and the hood never works properly afterward.
Range hoods that come in your range's color
Every colored hood we list is below, with the range each hood is made to sit above.
Three years on parts and a lifetime warranty on the motor. Labor isn't covered.
Two years full, then the fan motor as a part only to year five.
Two years of parts and labor, four if you register.
One year of parts and labor.
One year of parts and labor.
ZLINE wall hood, painted to match ZLINE's range doors
Sold by Colorful Brands. The 30 inch hood comes in White Matte, Blue Gloss and Red Gloss, from $1,190 to $1,200, and the 36 and 48 inch hoods come in six colors, from $1,488 to $1,900. Each ZLINE wall hood has a 700 CFM fan with four speeds, LED lights and baffle filters that go in the dishwasher. And the warranty is three years on parts with a lifetime warranty on the motor, but labor isn't covered, so you pay the technician. As for the match, ZLINE paints the hood shell in the same color names as its range doors, though ZLINE doesn't state that the hood and the door are an exact match. And at 30 inches the colors don't line up perfectly, because the 30 inch Legacy range comes in red matte only and the 30 inch hood comes in red gloss only. And at 700 CFM, this hood is also over the 400 CFM line for fresh air, so ask your installer about make-up air.

Sold by Colorful Brands.ZLINE Autograph wall hood, in white with a gold, bronze or black handle
Sold by Colorful Brands. The Autograph hood has a White Matte shell with a handle in polished gold, champagne bronze or matte black, made to match ZLINE's Autograph range, from $1,233 to $1,573 in 30 and 36 inch widths. Its fan moves 400 CFM at full speed against 700 CFM on ZLINE's painted hoods, so it suits a range with fewer high-output burners. And the warranty is the same as the painted hood's, three years on parts and a lifetime warranty on the motor.

$1,275.
Sold by Colorful Brands.KitchenAid wall hood in Juniper or Black Ore
Sold by Abt Electronics. KitchenAid's 30 inch canopy hood matches its Juniper and Black Ore ranges, at $1,826 at Abt, where it was on pre-order in late September 2026. It's rated at 400 CFM with four speeds, and a sensor turns the fan up when it detects high heat on several burners. It can vent outside through a 6 inch duct or recirculate the air. Its warranty is one year on parts and labor. But the hood comes in 30 inches only, so the 36 inch Juniper range has no Juniper hood of its width on our site, and the 400 CFM fan is under the rule of thumb for KitchenAid's gas range.

Café commercial hood in matte white or matte black
Sold by Abt Electronics. Café's commercial hood is made to go over its commercial-style ranges, in 30 and 36 inch widths, from $1,484 to $1,799 at Abt. It has four fan speeds, baffle filters and LED lights with a night-light setting, and it can vent through an 8 inch duct or recirculate. But Café rates it at 9 sones at full speed, which is loud, and the duct covers for ceilings of 8, 10 and 12 feet are sold separately. And there are too few owner reviews to go on, 8 reviews for the 30 inch hood and 6 reviews for the 36 inch on Café's own site. Its warranty is one year on parts and labor.

Viking 5 Series wall hood in Slate Blue, Nantucket or Pure White
Sold by Abt Electronics. Viking paints its hoods in the same color names and codes as its ranges, and we link the 30 inch in Slate Blue at $3,669 and the 48 inch in Slate Blue, Nantucket or Pure White at $4,709. But the hood is the shell and the lights only, because the fan is a separate ventilator kit that isn't in that price. For the fan, Viking lists kits from 300 to 1,500 CFM, depending on the width. And the warranty is two years full, then the fan motor as a part only through the fifth year, with you paying the labor.

Bertazzoni Master Series canopy hood in matte white or matte black
Sold by Abt Electronics. Bertazzoni's 36 inch matte hood is $2,879 at Abt, with a 600 CFM fan, three speeds plus a boost, and stainless baffle filters that go in the dishwasher. And Bertazzoni says its hoods are made in Italy. Its warranty is two years on parts and labor, four years if you register. But this hood comes in matte white or matte black only, so it doesn't match Bertazzoni's red, orange or yellow ranges, and at 600 CFM it's over the line for fresh air.

When the hood can't match, and why that's fine
Kucht makes no hood in color, so a colored Kucht range takes a stainless hood above it. We offer Kucht's own stainless wall hood with the range, $1,089 for the 30 inch and $1,133 for the 36 inch. And that isn't a compromise, because the hood sits above eye level and reads as a shape, so a stainless or white hood over a colored range is the normal kitchen. But the dishwasher is the piece where a mismatch shows, and that's the next guide.
